In German subordinate clauses, the conjugated verb moves to the end. These are introduced by conjunctions like weil, dass, wenn, ob.

Key Rules

  • 1Conjugated verb goes to the END
  • 2weil = because
  • 3dass = that
  • 4wenn = if, when
  • 5ob = whether, if
  • 6obwohl = although

Examples

Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin.

I stay home because I am sick.

💡 In 'weil ich krank bin', verb 'bin' moves to the end.

Ich weiß, dass er kommt.

I know that he is coming.
