German Imperative (Commands)

The imperative is used for commands, requests, and instructions. It has different forms for du, ihr, and Sie.

Key Rules

  • 1du-form: stem only or stem + e (Komm! / Komme!)
  • 2ihr-form: same as ihr present (Kommt!)
  • 3Sie-form: infinitive + Sie (Kommen Sie!)
  • 4Irregular verbs: sein → sei/seid/seien Sie

Komm her!

Come here! (informal singular)

Wartet einen Moment!

Wait a moment! (informal plural)

Setzen Sie sich bitte!

Please sit down! (formal)
